PHNOM PENH — Hoàng Thị Hồng Thảo brought home a silver medal in badminton on Friday. This was also the last medal of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the ASEAN Para Games 12 in Cambodia.

In the women's singles, classified WH2, Thảo could not overcome her very strong opponent, Amnouy Wewithan from Thailand. She lost in two games.

Earlier, she had two wins in the group stage against the Filipino player and in the semi-finals against her teammate Lê Thị Thu Hiền.

“I tried my best every match to reach the final match," Thảo said.

"Competing against a strong rival who won titles at the Asian and world event as well as gained silver medal at the Paralympics, I considered the final match a chance to gain experience for me.”

The Vietnamese delegation has won 66 gold, 58 silver, and 77 bronze medals, ranking third in the medal tally after Indonesia and Thailand at the Games in Cambodia.

Vietnamese swimmers won 28 gold medals, 21 silver and 32 bronze in total. Track-and-field athletes brought home 20 gold, 19 silver and 20 bronze medals, far exceeding the set goal of 13 gold medals for the 31-member team.

Paratlifters completed their competition at the event with 10 gold medals, while the chess team bagged a total of eight gold medals.

The Vietnamese sports delegation to the event consisted of 164 members, including 122 athletes who competed in track-and-field, swimming, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, chess, judo, and boccia. VNS
