HA NOI — Top Vietnamese player and first seed Le Quang Liem lost to grandmaster Jojua Davit of Georgia in their ninth and final game of the 25th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, which concluded on Wednesday.
Liem (Elo 2,727) lost to Davit (2,583) in just 50 moves.
It has been an unsuccessful tournament for Liem, with five wins, three losses and one draw.
Young talent Nguyen Anh Khoi finished on the same points as his older compatriot but with a better coefficient, which helps him rank higher.
The championship went to Daniil Dubov (Elo 2,691) of Russia, who pocketed the winner’s prize of $13,000. — VNS
