HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Anh Minh placed third while Lê Chúc An passed the shortcut of the 31st Taiwan Amateur Golf Championship 2024 on April 10 in Taiwan.
The second day of competition saw Minh's improved performance as he jumped from No 4 to No 3 in the men's category ranking with a 1-over 145 score.
Starting from hole No 10, the 17-year-old did not have smooth beginning, with a bogey in the No 11 at the Kaohsiung Golf & Country Club. He then corrected his mistakes with two birdies in the 13th and 15th before suffering another bogey in the No 16.
After the break, Minh was successful with three birdies and finished the day with a 1-under 71.
After two rounds, his 1-over 144 score guaranteed him a place in the second half of the tournament.
Wu Chen-Shiuan and Kao Lung-Jui Kao of the hosts were first and second players with even par.
On the women's side, An performed worse than the previous day. She made two double bogeys, seven bogeys and only two birdies to score 10-over 82 in the second round, for a total of 16-over 160 for two rounds.
Despite unexpected results, Lê Chúc An makes the shortcut.
Luckily, it seemed other athletes also put in poor performances so An held onto her top 30 position and qualified for the next stage.
The second female player of Việt Nam Lê Nguyễn Minh Anh was disqualified as she made 26-over 170, sitting at No 42.
According to the coaching board, the 15-year-old would learn a lot from her rivals for better results in the future.
Leaders of the women's side were Yoko of Indonesia with 1-under 143. She was followed by South Korean Kim Shihyun and Taiwanese Chen Yu-Chu who scored even par-144. VNS
