HA NOI — The National Defence Sports Centre 5 topped the medal tally after the first day of competition of the National Age Groups Swimming Championship in Da Nang yesterday.
The centre’s swimmers shone with eight golds, two silvers and two bronzes. HCM City are second with six golds, four silvers and four bronzes, while Quang Binh sit third with six golds, two silvers and one bronze.
The event saw 10 national records broken, of which four were smashed by swimmers of National Defence Sports Centre 5.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ 50m breaststroke aged 14-15, Tran Hung Nguyen of Centre 5 seized a gold medal after clocking a time of 31.51secs. Le Hoang Minh Anh of HCM City and Nguyen Hoang Khang of Vinh Long took silver and bronze, respectively.
On the girls’ side, Nguyen Thi Nhat Lam of Vinh Long triumphed with a time of 34.10secs. Hanoian Vuong Thi Thu Phuong and Mai Gia Han of HCM City were the runners-up.
In the boys’ 50m breaststroke in the 13 and under age group, gold went to Le Trong Phuc of An Giang after he finished with a time of 31.88secs, followed by Ho Nguyen Duy Khoa of Centre 5 and Pham Hoang Nam of Tien Giang.
While Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Vy brought HCM City a gold medal in the girls’ side. She defeated Le Thi Nhu Quynh of Da Nang and Vo Thi My Tien of Long An to lead with a time of 35.72secs.
