HA NOI — The National Junior Chess Championship started in Do Son City in the northern province of Hai Phong on July 3.
The event attracted the participation of 940 players from nearly 40 teams across the country including Ha Noi, HCM City, Can Tho, Da Nang, Thua Thien – Hue, Quang Ninh and the Military team.
Participants will compete in the boys’ and girls’ categories across a number of age groups in rapid, blitz, standard and traditional chess formats.
According to the event’s organisers, the best players will be selected for the national teams to compete in the upcoming international events.
At the recent ASEAN Age Groups Chess Championship in Davao, Philippines, Viet Nam sent 109 chess players and they won 70 gold, 52 silver and 30 bronze medals. — VNS
