HA NOI — Young Vietnamese talent Nguyen Van Phuong securedd a place in the quarter-finals of an ITF International U18 Tennis Tournament on Wednesday.
The event was held at Phu Tho Tennis Club in HCM City.
Viet Nam’s No 1 U18 player beat Nguyen Van Phuong of Rudolfs Aksenoks in Latvia 6-4, 6-1.
Phuong will next face Coleman Wong of Hong Kong.
Viet Nam’s Timothy Toan Phung lost to Christian Didier Chin of Malaysia 6-1, 6-0, Tat Thai Nguyen was defeated by Stefan Storch of Australia 6-2, 6-2, Huynh Minh Thinh lost to Kasidit Samrej of Thailand 6-2, 6-3, and Tu Le Khanh Duy was also beaten by Natthayut of Thailand 7-6, 6-2.
Phuong and his teammate Minh Thinh have also reached to the semi-finals of the men’s doubles. They came from behind to beat a pair from Australia and Japan 2-6, 6-0, 7-6.
The eight-day tournament has attracted more than 100 players around the world. It will finish on Saturday. — VNS
