ĐÀ NẴNG - Martial art athletes from the host nation won six bronze medals in the first days of competition of the 26th Asian Taekwondo Championship which opened on May 14 in Đà Nẵng City.
Over the first two days of the event, they competed in poomsae (performance) categories at the Tiên Sơn Sports Complex.
Phạm Quốc Việt came third in the men's U30 individual poomsae. Lưu Quyền Phước was third in the men's over-17 individual freestyle. Nguyễn Thiên Phụng took bronze in the men's U40 individual. Nguyễn Phan Khánh Hân earned her medal in the women's over-17 individual freestyle and Liên Thị Tuyết Mai finished third in the women's U40 individual recognised.
The pair and team events will follow.
Việt Nam are one of strongest teams in the world in group five freestyle having won world titles several times.
The kyorugi (combat) matches will be on May 16-18.
In the previous championship in 2022, Việt Nam took six poomsae bronzes but failed to bring home a medal in kyorugi from South Korea. VNS
