HA NOI — Midfielder Le Tan Tai has signed a one-year contract extension with former V-League 1 champions Becamex Binh Duong.
Former national team’s captain Tai, 34, is still a key player of Binh Duong, who finished seventh in the national premiere league last year.
Tai helped the national team lift the first ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup’s title in 2008. He has played for Binh Duong since 2014.
Defending champions Ha Noi FC wanted to sign Tai but he decided to stay put.
“I am beginning to feel my age so I only have one-year contract extension with Binh Duong. In the next football season, if I am strong enough, I will play more,” said Tai.
“I respect the invitation of Ha Noi FC as they are the best team in the country now. However, I decided to stay with Binh Duong as I have a strong attachment to it,” Tai added.
During the time of playing with Binh Duong, Tai helped his team win V.League 1’s titles in 2014 and 2015; win Vietnamese National Cup in 2015 and 2018 as well as take the title of Vietnamese Super Cup in 2015 and 2015.
Tai also won the Vietnamese Silver Ball award in 2012, Bronze Ball awards in 2005 and 2006 and won the award of Young Player of the Year in 2005. — VNS
