ĐỒNG THÁP — The Việt Nam Cycling and Motor Sports Federation announced national talented cyclist Trần Minh Mẫn has been killed in a traffic accident on June 27.
The 17-year-old was cycling during a Đồng Tháp Team's training course before he hit a van parked on the side of the road near Cao Lãnh Bridge between Cao Lãnh City and Lấp Vò District.
He was rushed to hospital but later died.
Nguyễn Ngọc Vũ, federation general secretary, said Mẫn was a cyclist with lots of potential for both the Đồng Tháp Province team and the national team. He was national reigning champion in the time trial and point trial events in the U16 age group. He was also an energetic athlete, determined and ambitious.
His death was a big blow to his club and the national team as well as his family which lives in the provincial Tam Nông District.
His funeral was also held on June 27. VNS
