U19 Việt Nam gear up for ASEAN U-19 Boys' Championship

HÀ NỘI — The U19 Việt Nam team are gearing up for the upcoming ASEAN U-19 Boys' Championship 2024 in Indonesia.

To prepare for the event, which will be held from July 17-29, coach Hứa Hiền Vinh has called up 35 players. Notably, the roster includes midfielder Hồ Hữu Hưng, who currently plays for CU Bohemians Praha Club in the Czech Republic.

Born in 2006, Hưng holds both Vietnamese and Czech citizenship and has spent 13 years training and playing football in the Czech Republic, previously with FC Slovacko (2011-2016) and SK Slavia Praha (2016-2018).

The player list also includes goalkeeper Cao Văn Bình (SLNA), defender Nguyễn Lương Tuấn Khải (Huế) and midfielders Vi Đình Thượng, Nguyễn Hữu Tuấn (Huế) and Thái Bá Đạt (PVF). These players were previously unavailable due to commitments with their home clubs in domestic tournaments.

The Vietnamese U19 team will train at the Việt Nam Youth Football Training Centre before heading to Indonesia on July 16.

Việt Nam are in Group B with Laos, Myanmar and Australia. Group A consists of Cambodia, Timor Leste, the Philippines, and hosts Indonesia, while Group C brings together Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.

Teams will compete in a round-robin format in each group to determine the rankings and the top three teams from each group and the best second-placed team will advance to the semi-finals.

According to the schedule, Việt Nam will play their opening match against Myanmar on July 18, followed by matches against Australia on July 21 and Laos on July 24.

To prepare for the ASEAN event, the Vietnamese team recently participated in a friendly international tournament in China, where they faced hosts China, South Korea and Uzbekistan. VNS
