HÀ NỘI Striker Hà Đức Chinh scored four goals as Viet Nam U22s romped to a 6-0 win over Brunei in the opening match of Group B of the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines yesterday.

With Brunei one of the competition's minnows, head coach Park Hang-seo rested key players such as midfielders Nguyễn Quang Hải and Đỗ Hùng Dũng.

Việt Nam dominated from the get-go and a chance came to Nguyễn Trọng Hùng in the first minute but his shot lacked accuracy.

The opener came just nine minutes in, as Chinh headed home from a cross after a short corner.

In the 23rd minute, taking full advantage of a Brunei defender’s mistake, Chinh double the score with a close-range shot that trickled past goalkeeper Muhammad Jabidi

Viet Nam had several more chances in the first half to add to the lead, but were unable to do so.

Just three minutes after the break, Chinh restored normal service with a header from a corner on the right to complete his hat-trick.

In the 59th minute, overage player and substitute Nguyễn Trọng Hoàng chipped over the top to put Hùng through, who unselfishly passed to midfielder Triệu Việt Hưng for an easy tap-in.

In the 67th minute, Chinh nodded home from yet another corner for his fourth and Viet Nam's fifth.

The final goal came seven minutes from time, as Hùng jinked past a defender then slotted home with his left foot to complete the rout.

After the match, Brunei coach Aminuddin Jumat said his players tried their best, but they couldn't handle a strong Việt Nam team.

Meanwhile, South Korean coach Park was very satisfied with his side's result.

Việt Nam will next take on Laos on Thursday. VNS
