HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam crushed Timor Leste 7-1 to lead Group B of the AFF Futsal Championship in Thailand on April 5.
Earlier, Việt Nam tied with Myanmar 1-1 in the opening match, so had to beat East Timor if they wanted to have the opportunity to move to the next round.
Vietnamese players quickly overwhelmed their opponents and scored when Nguyễn Thịnh Phát had a decisive shot in the first minute.
In the 17th minute, East Timor suddenly levelled the score.
In the last seconds of the first half, Trần Thái Huy helped Việt Nam take the lead, and Thịnh Phát quickly scored another goal to put the Vietnamese team 3-1 ahead before the break.
The second half was a one-sided game favouring coach Pham Minh Giang’s players. Taking advantage of the physical decline of East Timor, Việt Nam scored three more goals in just the first 11 minutes of the half.
The final efforts of Việt Nam were rewarded with Phạm Đức Hòa’s goal in the 38th minute, the final goal of the match.
After two matches, Việt Nam top Group B with four points. They have the same points as Myanmar but are ahead on goal difference. In the previous game, Myanmar defeated Australia 6-1.
Việt Nam will continue to meet Australia, while Myanmar face Timor Leste on April 6.
The AFF Futsal Championship features nine teams divided into two groups. The teams are competing in a round-robin format that will see the top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals. VNS
