HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese karate martial artists bagged four gold medals on the second competition day on May 19.
In the women’s kata (performance) team, the trio of Nguyễn Thị Phương, Lưu Thị Thu Uyên and Nguyễn Ngọc Trâm won gold. Phương continued her excellent performance after winning gold in the women’s individual kata event on May 18.
In the women’s under-68kg kumite final, Hồ Thị Thu Hiền crushed Ceyco Georgia Zefanya of Indonesia 5-1 to win gold for Việt Nam.
In the men’s -84kg kumite final, Vietnamese Đỗ Thành Nhân also claimed gold after beating Thodny Phongsamphan of Laos 8-0.
Bùi Thị Thảo brought Việt Nam's third gold medal in the women’s over-68kg kumite final, as she bested Dessyinta Rakawuni Banurea of Indonesia 1-0.
In the women’s under-55kg kumite final, Cok Istri Agung Sanistyarani of Indonesia defeated Penpisut Namkhao of Thailand 2-0 to triumph.
Meanwhile, in the men's under-75kg kumite final, the gold medal went to Raghonathan Sharmendran of Malaysia.
In addition to four golds, Việt Nam also bagged two bronze medals.
The karate competition is being held in the northern province of Ninh Bình between May 18-20. Athletes are competing for 15 sets of medals.
