HÀ NỘI — Đỗ Việt Hùng has been voted as the new chair of the Việt Nam Recreational and Electronic Sports Association (VIRESA) for the 2024-29 term.
The vote was held during the National Congress of the VIRESA held on October 24 in Hà Nội, which also looked at how the body plans to expand its scope.
Speaking at the event, Hùng who will be assisted by ten deputy chairmen and a 41-strong member executive committee, thanked delegates for believing in and voting for him, promising to lead VIRESA to new heights during his five-year term.
He said: "With a model of a well-shaped organisation, along with dedicated officials and staff, I believe that the VIRESA Executive Committee will successfully carry out the key tasks and earn successful achievement."
VIRESA operates in a number of areas, playing a vital role in developing esports and organising tournaments across Việt Nam. Most recently it has also worked as a pioneer in digital physical sports, a new generation sports competition which is said to have mass potential and is well suited for the physical characteristics of Vietnamese people.
VIRESA has announced a number of important goals and directions to promote the development of esports and recreational sports in the country.
It plans to strengthen and enhance its role as a professional social organisation, promote socialisation and attract more financial resources.

The development of esports and digital physical sports will be expanded widely, including more activities at schools for students, along with incorporating them into large-scale events across the nation.
VIRESA will strengthen cooperation with world esports organisations, pioneering in hosting international events to turn Việt Nam into a regional centre for esports events.
According to data from Google, Việt Nam is currently in the world's top five in terms of game publishing, with 4.2 billion downloads. It is expected that the revenue from games and applications in Việt Nam will reach US$2.7 billion by 2026.
Also at the congress, delegates reviewed VIRESA's activities in the last working term, reporting that the association has been very successful in promoting esports, widely developing recreational sports choreography, organising domestic and international competitions and holding professional training courses for instructors and referees.
Vietnamese players took part in many competitions and achieved many remarkable results, including winning gold medals in three previous SEA Games editions.
Along with esports, VIRESA also proactively connected up resources and developed recreational sports dancing, such as breakdancing and Hip Hop, in provinces and cities and among students. VNS
