BẮC NINH — Việt Nam advanced to the finals of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Asia 14 & Under Development Championships 2024 after winning the regional qualifier on January 17 in Bắc Ninh Province.
After two stages of the tournament, No 1 seed Lê Tiến Anh of Việt Nam won the boys' single title after beating No 4 Ashlin De Silva of Sri Lanka 6-0, 6-3.
On the girls' side, Naba Nishan trounced teammates Manha Mohamed Ali 6-0, 6-1 in the all-Maldives final to take the girls' top place.
In the doubles events, Tiến Anh and teammate Vũ Tuấn Phong beat Ashlin De Silva and Risith Somaratna of Sri Lanka 6-4, 7-6 to take the boys' gold while Akeesha Hirundi Silva Diyunuge and Sandithi Usgoda Arachchi of Sri Lanka defeated Manha Mohamed Ali and Nishan to bring home the girls' title.
Vietnamese female players did not have their best performance this event. Huỳnh Ngọc Khánh did the best, taking No 4 in the girls' singles.
Việt Nam and Sri Lanka will be two representatives of the South, Southeast and East Asia to compete in the finals in India from April 8-17.
The qualifying tournament featured 28 athletes from seven countries of Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Cambodia, Brunei and the hosts. VNS
