HÀ NỘI — A Seven-member team from Việt Nam will compete in the 2019 FINA (International Swimming Federation) World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, from July 12 to 28, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Việt Nam’s swimming star Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên, who is currently in the US for intensive training, will be part of the team.
Across four Southeast Asian Games, the 22-year-old Viên has bagged 19 gold medals, seven silvers and two bronzes and has broken 11 regional records.
The world event will attract the participation of 2,639 athletes from 194 nations and territories. They will vie for 76 gold medals in swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, open water swimming and high diving. With 82 athletes, the host nation will have the largest team. — VNS
