HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Dương Hồ Vũ won the eighth stage of the HCM City Television Cycling Cup on Wednesday.
Vũ of HCM City’s MM Mega Market won the 185km stage from Quảng Ngãi to Quy Nhơn City in which he finished in 4:44.48.
Huỳnh Thanh Tùng of the Military Zone 4 and Nguyễn Văn Dương of Hà Nội were the runners-up.
Although not being appreciated and departing slower than opponents, Vũ accelerated very drastically to overcome Tùng of the Military Zone 7 in the final metres to reach the first stage.
Winning the first stage in this year's tournament brought the young rider a prize of VNĐ20 million (US$870).
However, results in the rankings after eight stages saw almost no significant change. Nguyễn Tấn Hoài of Domesco Phamarcy Đồng Tháp still won both the yellow jersey and green jersey award.
Lộc Trời An Giang temporarily led the team rankings.
Cyclists will have a day off on Thursday before taking part in the ninth stage from Quy Nhơn to Pleiku City lasting 167km. This race promises to be very attractive when cyclists must constantly cross the two passes of An Khê and Mang Yang.
The event will finish on June 7 after 18 stages. The winner of the tournament will walk away with the yellow jersey and VNĐ200 million (US$8,600). — VNS
