HCM CITY — The Voi (Elephant) Waterfall in Lâm Đồng Province is one of the most beautiful scenes in the Central Highlands.

Located in Lâm Đồng Province’s Lâm Hà District, some 25km from Đà Lạt City, the waterfall is part of Cam Ly Stream and is more than 30m high and 15m wide. There is a hidden cave called Hang Gió (Wind Cave) under the waterfall.

The name of the waterfall is associated with a tragic love story. According to legend, a couple promised to be together, but the man joined the army to fight invaders and died in battle.

After that, the woman went to the mountain where they had made their promise and sang a sorrowful song. She continued singing until she died.

A herd of elephants nearby heard her singing for a long time and then turned to stone. Suddenly there was a loud explosion that split the mountain in two, and water rushed off it.

During weekends, the Elephant Waterfall is popular among tourists. The entrance fee is VNĐ20,000 (US$0.9). Near the foot of the falls, authorities have placed a walkway where visitors can take photos and enjoy the view. — VNS
