HCM CITY People’s Artist Bạch Tuyết, a cải lương (reformed opera) guru, has released an MV on YouTube to inspire people during the coronavirus pandemic.
On the MV, Tuyết sings the song Ông Bà Anh Thời Covid-19 (My Grandparents in Covid-19 Pandemic) in cải lương style.
The song is another version of young composer and singer Lê Thiện Hiếu’s Ông Bà Anh (My Grandparents), about his grandparents’ love.
The new lyrics about love in the pandemic were written by singer Thái Thùy Linh and teacher Nguyễn Xuân Khang, headmaster of the Marie Curie High school in Hà Nội.
Tuyết’s MV has attracted nearly 20,000 views.
YouTube user Nguyễn Thanh Phương commented that Tuyết’s MV has brought optimistic energy to people.
“I want to bring joy to people during the pandemic. I wish peace for everybody in the world. We together can overcome the pandemic,” said the 75-year-old artist, who has more than 60 years of experience in the industry.
Tuyết is known as a pioneer for performing popular hits in cải lương style.
In 2018, she made waves after singing Em Gái Mưa (Rainy Girl) in cải lương, a romantic hit of 2017 by young pop star Hương Tràm.
The MV has been warmly welcomed by cải lương fans and young people as well.
“Cải lương should be changed to meet the tastes of young audiences,” Tuyết said. VNS
