HA NOI — The best Vietnamese films and TV programmes will be honoured during the Golden Kite Awards 2018, taking place on April 15 in Ha Noi.

The Golden Kite Awards are held annually by the Vietnamese Cinema Association.

“It aims to honour films and television programmes which have left a good impression on audiences this year. Selected films and TV shows will have received a warm welcome from audiences, and promote humanity and national identity,” said Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, vice chairwoman of the association, yesterday.

This year the organisers received 117 entries, including feature films, TV series, and animations, but also short films, scientific films and documentaries. The entries were then divided into relevant categories.

Each category has one jury board including notable filmmakers and critics such as script writer Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, the actress Minh Chau, and musician Do Hong Quan. Joining these household names are directors Luu Nghiep Quynh and Quoc Trong.

Besise the Golden Kite and Silver Kite awards, the jury board will grant prizes for best director, cameraman, actor, actress, musician, screenwriter and designer.

Among the feature films are many notable entries that hit the box office such as Em Chua 18 (Jailbait), which won the Golden Lotus Award 2017 for best feature film at the 20th Vietnamese Film Festival. Other entries include Dao cua Dan Ngu Cu (The Way Station) which won best film, best actor and best director of photography in the ASEAN International Films Festival & Awards (AIFFA) 2017 and O Day Co Nang (Here Comes The Sun) which will compete at the 6th Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival 2018 (GUKIFF) on May 10-17.

A total of 13 feature films will be screened for free in Ha Noi at the Studio for Documentary and Scientific Film (465 Hoang Hoa Tham Street), the National Cinema Centre (87 Lang Ha Street) and the August Cinema (45 Hang Bai Street) on April 9-13. Free tickets can be collected from the cinemas between 3pm-6pm starting from today.

The award ceremony will take place on April 15 at the Ha Noi Opera House (1 Trang Tien Street). It will be broadcast live on VTV2.
