HA NOI – Monsoon Music Festival (MMF), Viet Nam’s biggest music event, will storm the city tonight with a repertoire featuring a lineup of Vietnamese and international artists.

The young emerging band PB Nation & Mau Nuoc will open the music banquet at 6:15pm with a hip-hop performance.

Vietnamese diva My Linh will unveil her latest music project, Chat with Mozart 2, in which she performs world famous classical music with Vietnamese lyrics, aiming to bring this music genre to Vietnamese people. Her performance will start at 9.45pm.

The Swedish duo Kite, Danish singer SaveUs, Japanese DJ Julien Sato and VJ 100LDK will also be featured tonight.

Tomorrow will see the performance of Land – a young band consisting of nine students of the Berklee College of Music, including Anna Truong, the daughter of the famous Vietnamese composer Anh Quan.

When asked whether the band was selected to perform thanks to the fame of Anna Truong’s father, MMF’s founder and general director, composer Quoc Trung, said the band qualified by meeting MMF’s criteria for fresh music worth listening to.

“We don’t select bands based on our personal relations; we select them based on their qualifications. Land consists of very passionate and talented music students from Viet Nam and the US,” he said.

The only female member and vocalist of the band, Anna Truong, said her band will introduce their own neo-soul songs. Truong will also debut a new song for which she wrote the Vietnamese lyrics.

In addition to Land, singer Rukhsana Merrise from the UK, the band Last Train from France, and the band Good Luck from South Africa will also perform tomorrow night.

Tomorrow Vietnamese divo Tung Duong will team up for the first time with composer Quoc Trung, who is also MMF’s founder and general director, to stage a fresh concert “which is special for MMF,” the singer wrote on his Facebook page.

The legendary German rock band Scorpion will headline this year’s Sunday night concert. Their Ha Noi performance is part of the band’s world tour to celebrate its 50 year anniversary.

The MMF organiser had to wait three years to get a nod from Scorpion.

According to MMF general director Quoc Trung, to prepare for the two-and-a-half-hour concert of the world-famous band, the organisers had to rent most of the sound equipment from Malaysia “to satisfy their extremely tough requirements for sound and lighting”.

Since its debut in 2014, every year MMF attracts thousands of music lovers in Viet Nam to enjoy its diversity of music styles. Some international big names have performed at MMF, including the all female Australian/British string quartet Bond and the Grammy-winning soul singer Joss Stone. – VNS
