QUANG NAM — A festival featuring short plays and comedies about environmental protection officially kicked off on Thursday at the Culture Centre in the central province of Quang Nam.

The event gathers nearly 600 amateur Vietnamese actors and musicians from 24 provinces and cities nationwide. In many plays like Cai Cu – Cai Moi (Old Thing – New Thing), Qua Bao (Retribution) and Ai La Thu Pham? (Who is the Culprit?), the performers will convey messages about state policies on environmental protection in order to improve public awareness about pollution, following a civilised lifestyle and at the same time, criticise contemporary environmental issues across the country.

The festival also creates chances for amateur performers to exchange and enhance their experience as well as explore and honour theatrical talents.

“We believe that through their talent, dedication and passion, the actors and artists will present to the public excellent plays, leaving unforgettable memories in every citizen of Quang Nam in particular and visitors to the province in general,” said Nguyen Cong Trung, deputy director of the Department of Grassroots-level Culture.

Held by the Department of Grassroots-level Culture, Department of Science, Technology and Environment under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in cooperation with Quang Nam’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the event will conclude on September 9. — VNS
