HÀ NỘI — Diệu Hà has kicked off a music project Nghìn Trùng Xa Cách (Thousands of Miles Away) showing her passion for the music of Phạm Duy.

The project, including nine songs composed by late Phạm Duy, features love, patriotism and life.

"I love Phạm Duy's music because his music has a strange charm," Hà said at the project launching ceremony in Hà Nội.

"Lyrics in his compositions are always elaborate and beautiful. Learning and singing Phạm Duy's music are a challenge for me, but also an extremely interesting opportunity to experience and discover his music."

The song Tình Ca (Love Song), the first music video of the project, was launched at the ceremony. The video producer team are established by music director Nguyễn Hữu Vượng and director Kai Nguyễn Hải.

Tình Ca was shot in Hà Nội, the northern province of Quảng Ninh and the northern mountainous province of Sơn La, popularising nature landscapes and spreading love, the national pride and desire for peace.

"I like the music video arrangement by Vượng," said PhD in art studies Nguyễn Thị Minh Thái. "It is not a music video but a music film."

Under the project, Diệu Hà will release the remaining eight music videos in the next months.

Phạm Duy (1921-2013) is one of Việt Nam's most popular musicians. He was an instrumentalist, singer and music researcher. He is also considered to be a pioneer in combining folk music and Vietnamese new music (the 1940s and later).

Hà began her professional musical career with the music video Oh My Homeland in February. She graduated in script writing at Hà Nội Academy of Theatre and Cinema. Currently she works at Việt Nam Television Film Centre and teaches Vietnamese for foreigners. She has been popular in youtube with nick name Diệu Bống. — VNS
