HA NOI — Madrid-based photographer Tran Viet Ha has completed a photo collection on Japanese kimonos made with Vietnamese fabrics.

Titled "Soul of Vietnam", the collection is a collaboration between Ha Noi and HCM City-based fashion designers Huynh Hai Long and Dang The Huy, and reflects the beauty of Vietnamese art and design.

Ha shot the photos at Ky Long Villa in HCM City during her last trip to Viet Nam in 2016.

The kimono designs are extraordinarily beautiful and original, combining Japanese embroidery techniques with Vietnamese fabrics. The mystical colours of the designs and the vivid, rich colours used by the photographer transport the viewers to a faraway oriental land.

“It’s rare to have a chance to work with a female Vietnamese fashion photographer. Ha’s gentle femininity that’s so indicative of a Vietnamese woman encases a serious, powerful working spirit. We could feel her burning passion for creating art,” said Huy, whose Hulos Prive brand was part of Grand Prix Vietnam Collection 2009.

“She knew how to inspire and enthuse the team that worked with her during the photo shoot. Her works of art in general, and the kimono photographs she shot in particular are masterpieces that made my designs sublime. She painted the spirit of the design that I wanted to communicate with the audience perfectly - the spirituality and mysticism of the oriental culture,” he said.

Ha said she has long been impressed by the duo’s spiritual, emotional, exotic and mystical designs and could not miss the chance of working with them when she got the opportunity to be in HCM City.
