QUẢNG BÌNH — Quảng Bình is holding a performance week of sailboats on the Nhật Lệ River in an act to save the tourism industry from the mass fish deaths that have occured since April.
The week began yesterday and will last until the 20th of this month. The organisers, Quảng Bình tourism association, said the sailboat performance was to celebrate the upcoming traditional boat racing tournament that Thai and Lao teams would join.
There are 15 plastic sailboats, which were made right on the riverbank, taking part in the performance, with each carrying logos of prominent firms and agencies in the province.
A number of races and photo contests will be held during the week to get locals and visitors closer to the performance week.
“This is being held to offer more recreation, aiming to lure more visitors to Quảng Bình,” said Nguyễn Văn Kỳ, local tourism association’s chairman.
In addition to the performance of sailboats, the week will also include the crystal kayak, which helps to show the pure, transparent water of the river.
Quảng Bình is home to the world’s biggest cave Sơn Đoòng and a number of pristine grottos. The locality has been an emerging destination in Việt Nam. The local tourism sector has recently recognised the potential attraction of beaches and rivers, and they are working harder to utilise this.
Trần Xuân Cương, general secretary of the tourism association said the sailboat performance week would be held annually and will be bigger each year, an act to lure more tourists to its beaches. — VNS
