HA NOI — The Viet Nam Fashion Week Spring Summer 2019 will take place at Bach Thao (Botanical) Garden, Ha Noi, bringing audience back to their memories of childhood and close to nature, said designer Minh Hanh.

Hanh is one of 15 designers from HCM City, Hue and Ha Noi participating in the event which starts today. They gathered at a press conference yesterday to introduce the fashion week.

Hanh is a veteran designer and co-founder of the Viet Nam Fashion Week, which is held biannually on Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter seasons.

“This year the collections will be presented at a special catwalk of Botanical Garden instead of indoor stages with arrangement and decorations,” said Hanh.

“I think Botanical Garden with luxuriant flowers and trees is an ideal place to perform outfits for spring/summer season.”

Hanh said that there is a trend to come closer to nature at fashion events worldwide, and Viet Nam Fashion Week is not an exception.

“This time, audiences will enjoy fashion on the background of foliage, without fussy decorations. The programme promises to bring an authentic and truthful experience of fashion.”

“Many people don’t know where Nung Mountain is, and express surprise when learning there is a mountain in the heart of Ha Noi. There is the fact that Nung Mountain in particular and Botanical Garden in general are familiar among Hanoians. They evoke memories of childhood.”

“So I want to make an image of Botanical Garden popular among people, especially younger people.”

The designers will bring their latest collections inspired by nature, traditional culture and contemporary life. They feature materials suitable for spring and summer such as silk, denim, khaki, voile and tussore. Some use traditional technique of printing and hand-embroidery to make their collections.

Models set to perform during the fashion week include Kim Dung, Tra Mi, Thuy Tien and Hong Que.

Spanish designer Diego Cortizas, owner of the Chula brand, said this year he will use dark colours like black and navy.

“Chula is often known for designs with strong colours and colour blocking. Now I want to make a difference from collections of other designers who often choose bright colours for spring/summer season.”

Designer Ngoc Han, known for the printing-on-fabric technique, will also surprise by introducing a collection of minimalism.

“I choose white as the main colour for my collection to bring relaxed feeling for spring/summer. The designs are simple, minimalised and elegant with silk scarves as accessories,” she said.
