HA NOI — Last Man Standing, a fan favorite for seven seasons on 20th Century Fox Television, will get a Vietnamese version titled Me Oi, Bo Dau Roi? (Mom,Where’s Dad?) appearing on Viet Nam Television (VTV).

The US television station joined hands with Viet Nam Feature Film Studio to remake the blockbuster series to preserve the primary content while making it suitable with Vietnamese culture, said director Bui Tien Huy.

It’s story about Manh, a married father of three girls, who tries to maintain his masculinity in a world increasingly dominated by women.

Manh works as a senior executive and director of marketing for an outdoor sporting goods store chain, but when he comes home, he always ends up in situations which are half laughing and half crying with his wife and daughters.

His home life is initially filled with his wife, three daughters and a grandson, but later extends to the young men who are married to or dating his daughters.

“The 42-episode film reflects conflicts between man and his wife, and parents and teenage children,” said director Huy.

“Stories which can be seen in any family are told in a humourous, lively and fresh way. Through the film, we want to send a message that parents should be friends of their children to understand and sympathise with each other.”

“This is the first time a Vietnamese television serial is made in the genre of dramedy (drama/comedy). We expect that it will bring emotions and relaxed time for audiences.”

The film stars Excellent Artists Duc Khue and Quang Thang, People’s Artist Le Khanh, as well as beloved names such as Lan Phuong, Jimmi Khanh and Diem Hang.

The film will be broadcast on VTV3 channel from November 5.

Last Man Standing averaged 8.3 million viewers in Live + 7 ratings for the 2016-17 season on ABC channel. It was the network’s second most-watched comedy, after Modern Family. — VNS
