HA NOI — Heritage Space will present a musical night called Dan Tranh - Cello Improvisation: When East Meets West on Sunday.

Taking place from 8.15pm until 9.30pm, the night will feature Hue-based artisan Vinh Tuan, aka Master Duyet Thi Trang, and American cellist Bryan Charles Wilson.

The concert focuses on the improvisation between the Vietnamese zither, dan tranh and the Western classical, violoncello. The dan tranh and violoncello are two instruments that historically have had little interaction with one another.

Thousands of miles and hundreds of years separated these two instruments. When Vietnamese master of the dan tranh, Master Duyet Thi Trang, and American cellist Wilson, first collaborated, the magic between these instruments was apparent. Instead of relying upon the repertoire from their individual canons, they meet in the middle with improvisation.

The performance will have two special guests – Ly Phan and Eliott Malderez.

The concert will take place at Heritage Space Library, Floor 1, Dolphin Plaza, 28 Tran Binh Street, My Dinh 2, Nam Tu Liem District. Admission prices range from VND100,000 to 200,000. This is a non-profit event, all income will cover costs for artists and production.
