HA NOI — A leading Canadian jazz band will perform in Ha Noi to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Viet Nam.

The band, which includes Brandon Goodwin (drums), Alec Safy (bass), Joe Ferracuti (piano) and Julien Sandiford (guitar), will perform original songs.

The performance will take place on October 15 at Ha Noi Opera House, 1 Trang Tien Street, Hoan Kiem District.

Led by Goodwin, B’s Bees is a hard-swinging jazz outfit from Montreal.

They are known for writing compelling original music and playing high energy interpretations of songs by past masters such as The Jazz Messengers, Thelonious Monk and Charlie Haden.

B’s Bees has played prominent clubs around Montreal, performing over 100 times and headlining two weekly jazz parties.

The band won over audiences at its debut concert at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2012 then released its first album, featuring all original compositions, to much acclaim in 2015. The eponymous album reached the top spot on several jazz radio charts.

In the spring of 2017, the group embarked on their first major tour, playing shows from Montreal all the way down to New Orleans before heading back up to Canada to record their second album.

The album, released in January 2018, reached number four on the iTunes Canada Jazz Chart. Titled “Dear Charlie”, the record was a tribute to the great Charlie Haden and includes five of his compositions in exciting new arrangements. The group released their third album, “Kanata”, in April 2018 to critical acclaim.

During their North American album launch tour, the group performed with Grammy-award winning artists Delfeayo Marsalis and Braxton Cook, as well as Washington DC’s star saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed.

They will also perform October shows in Laos and Hong Kong. — VNS
