HÀ NỘI — Anyone who wants to learn about ethnic minority techniques on indigo dyeing is invited to join a craft workshop, organised by the Friends of Vietnam Heritage and the Indigo Store in Hà Nội on February 22.

From 9.30am to 11.30am, attendees will learn about textiles and design, and how they relate to the Việt Nam’s ethnic Tày culture as well as the country's ethnic minority cultures in general.

Indigo’s founder Dương Thị Thanh and her team at the Indigo Store have preserved and restored the traditional culture of ethnic minorities living in the northern mountainous town of Sa Pa in Lào Cai Province by helping about 120 ethnic minority people get involved in the production of organic plants and handmade textiles, aiming to help them make a sustainable livelihood.

At the workshop, members will learn about how the indigo plant is grown, how the dye is extracted, how it is nurtured and how to create different shades. They will also make and dye their own small square indigo tie-dye sample with the help of the Indigo store’s staff.

The Indigo Store is at 33A Văn Miếu Street. Max: 10 people. Fee: VNĐ200,000/adult, VNĐ100,000 for student and children under 15 years old. RSVP to Stella at stella@fvheritage.org. — VNS
