DA NANG — Two paintings and two stone sculptures by artists Bui Xuan Phai and Le Cong Thanh are on display in an exhibition at Da Nang’s Fine Arts Museum during Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

Han River, oil-on-canvas painted by Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988) in Da Nang in 1984, was bought by the city in an auction for US$31,000.

It’s a rare painting by one of Viet Nam’s best-known artists, who was born and lived all his life in Ha Noi.

Sculptor Le Cong Thanh, 86, also displays his two stone statues – Young Woman and Mother – and an oil painting Da Nang City.

The two stone sculptures were made with stone from Non Nuoc Stone sculpture village in Da Nang in 2007, while the paining depicts a corner of the city’s Tran Phu Street.

The museum will open its doors for the public during Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday between February 14 and 21.

The exhibition officially opened yesterday at 78 Le Duan Street along with regular displays of more than 400 works including contemporary fine arts, sculptures and paintings. — VNS
