HN Cinematheque hosts FVH movie night

Tonight, the Friends of Vietnam (FVH) will screen of family-themed films, including three new documentaries from TPD student directors, and the Dumpling Cake Bike directed by FVH member Brenda Mattick.

The night will be opened with the 15-minute Rito Rito, directed by Nguyen Ngoc Thao Ly. It depicts 15-year-old Rito – a Ha Noi cosplay enthusiast. Rito seems to be transported to another life, escaping from the harsh realities facing an unusual girl.Following, the Nhung Nguoi O Lai (Those Who Stayed) by Nguyen Ngoc Trang is about a family recovering from a mother’s death. The dad has to take on the role of mum in the household, while three generations deal with grief and the question of re-marriage.

In Mau Ky Uc (Pieces of Memories) by Nguyen Thi Thanh, Thao looks back at the life of a family matriarch, as her descendants care for her in her last days.

The Brenda Mattick’s Dumpling Cake Bike is about the life of one of Ha Noi’s many bicycle mechanics and his love for the old bicycles from the French colonial era.

All the films are presented with English subtitles. The screening will be followed by a Q&A section with the directors. The screening will take place at Hanoi  Cinematheque, 22A Hai Ba Trung Street. Cost: VND150,000. Limit: 90 people. Contact: Hang, nguyenvu_nganhang@yahoo.com — VNS
