Innocence, extinction in young artist’s works

HA NOI – A solo oil on canvas exhibition entitled Hien Thuc Qua Doi Mat (Reality through the Eyes) of young artist Nguyen Dinh Duy Quyen will be held at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum on August 5.

The exhibition encompasses works that took Quyen three years to create, from the time he spent observing his surroundings and exploring life to bring into his works.

The 29-year-old describes his paintings as an answer to his emotions about modern life. Childhood memories are also the inspiration for this exhibition.

“When I was young, I always wanted to see and feel the world outside, beautiful flowers and adorable animals. I also love to watch the animal world broadcast on television. Those images have appeared in my works, like an innocent child expresses his amazement when he looks at flowers and animals for the first time.

"The life of all kinds of animals around us is so peaceful, but in the wild it is totally the opposite. Animals have to fight to survive when their food sources run out and their  habitation is on the verge of extinction due to climate change, natural disasters and us human beings. Through my works, I wish to emphasise that fact and hope each of us will begin to protect our ecosystem,” he said.

Quyen added that his recent switch from acrylic to oil on canvas enabled him to process colour quality more maturely and to focus on each single detail.

Quyen graduated from Hue Fine Arts University. His works have been displayed at many museums around the country. His exhibition lasts until 6pm August 9.  — VNS
