HCM CITY — An exhibition of photographs shot by female members of the HCM City Photographers’ Association is open to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8.
The event, Que Huong Qua Ong Kinh Nhiep Anh Nu (Country through the Lens of Female Artists), displays 120 black-and-white and colour images of 40 female artists. The underlying theme is “women and love”.
The photos were selected from hundreds of images of landscapes, daily life, and ethnic minority women and children in remote areas across the country.
Highlighted works include Ra Dong (Working on the Field) by Pham Thi Kim Thanh, Hanh Phuc Cua Me (Happy Mom) by Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Thac Ban Gioc (Ban Gioc Waterfall) by Dinh Thi Kim Lan and Qua Cua Bien (Gift from the Sea) by Nguyen Thi Sin. They feature rural people and women in traditional clothes working at home and in the fields.
“These photos are of high quality and were shot by professional artists who wanted to show their love of life through their art. They capture the hearts of viewers," said Tran Thi Truc Mai, a resident of District 3, who visited the event’s opening ceremony.
Established in 1981, the association includes hundreds of female artists from different backgrounds in the city.
The club’s female members have organised many solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad, and have released many photo books to introduce Viet Nam and its culture and lifestyle to people around the world.
“The association helps the women to improve, share and introduce their art to the world,” said 74-year-old Dao Hoa Nu, head of the Hai Au Club of Female Photography, who won several top prizes at international and national photo competitions and festivals.
The exhibition is on display at HCM City Photographers’ Association, 122 Suong Nguyet Anh Street, in District 1. It will run till March 13. — VNS
