HCM CITY — A 365-page tear-off calendar featuring images of dogs won first prize in a calendar design contest launched by the southern branch of the Viet Nam Publishers Association and the Book Street Company held last weekend in HCM City.

The contest was part of the Lich Xuan 2018 (Spring Calendar 2018) exhibition, which took place on the city’s Book Pedestrian Street from October 7-15.

The winning publication was Nhung Chu Cho Than Quen (Faithful Dogs) published by the Xuan Phuong Nam Calendar Limited Company.

The company’s tear-off calendar called Dong Dao (Children’s Songs) won second prize, while Tra Dao (Tea Ceremony) from the An Hao Limited Company won third prize.

The event showcased 100 models of tear-off and desk calendars of different sizes published by the city’s leading calendar makers, reflecting Viet Nam’s culture, history, intangible and tangible heritage and landscapes.

In the desk calendar category, the organisers awarded the top three prizes to the Nhat Thong Printing and Packing Company’s Ve Mien Tho Au (Back to Childhood), Qua Mien Giao Duong (Going to Church), and Tuyet Tac Ngan Nam (Thousand-Year Masterpieces), respectively.

The winner of the most outstanding exhibit was the tear-off calendar from the Song Hanh Company called Hanh Trinh Di San Viet (Journey to the Best Heritage of Viet Nam), sized 38 cm x 53 cm.

It featured rare images and documents of famous Vietnamese tangible and intangible heritages such as Ha Long Bay, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Hoi An Ancient Town, and Son Doang Cave, as well as tai tu music and gongs. — VNS
