South Korean conductor leads movie score concert

HCM CITY – South Korean conductor Lim Jun Oh will lead the “Classical Music in Movies” concert featuring music of well-known and award-winning movies at the HCM City Opera House on Saturday and Sunday.
 
The night will open with music from Disney classics The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Tarzan, which will be performed by the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO). The concert also features scores from famous movies, such as The Phantom of the Opera, Pirates of Caribbean, The Sound of Music and the Japanese animation Howl’s Moving Castle.
 
Clarinetist Dao Nhat Quang will present works from two famous movies, Out of Africa and The Mission.
 
Quang, a graduate of the Academic Music College of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Russia, has performed at concerts and festivals in Russia, South Korea, and Viet Nam.
 
He taught music in South Korea from 2003 to 2008. Now he is the deputy head of HBSO Symphony Orchestra.
 
Violinist Duong Minh Chinh, also a graduate of the Academic Music College of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, will perform violin compositions from two touching movies, Cinema Paradiso and Schindler’s List.
 
Chinh got his Master’s Degree of Art and Chamber Music at the Novosibirsk State Conservatory Mikhail Glinka, Russia.
 
He won top prizes at international competitions, including the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, and the Novosibirsk International Violin Competition.
 
He has been a lecturer of Violin and Chamber music at Magnitogorsk State Conservatory in Russia and Viet Nam National Academy of Music.
 
He has performed with prestigious orchestras, such as Novosibirsk Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of Russia, New Prime Philharmonic Orchestra of Korea and Viet Nam National Symphony Orchestra, and has toured in Russia, France, Italy, South Korea and Japan.
 
After studying music at South Korea, Lim continued his conducting at the Novosibirsk State Conservatory Mikhail Glinka under instruction of Professor Evgeni Valierevich Mushkin.
 
He was conductor of the Magnitogorsk Symphony Orchestra, and the Magnitogorsk Ballet and Opera Theatre in Russia. 
 
He has performed in over 700 concerts and festivals in countries such as South Korea, Russia and Viet Nam. 
 
He is now the lecturer at the Dong-Eui University, and music director and conductor of the New Prime Symphony Orchestra in Korea.
