HCM CITY — A live show featuring four veteran female Việt kiều (overseas Vietnamese) singers will be held in HCM City on Saturday.

The concert, Giọng Ca Vàng Bolero (Golden Voices in Bolero), features singers Phương Dung, Giao Linh, Thang Mỹ Dung and Họa My who are well-known in Việt Nam’s contemporary music scene.

The singers will perform 30 songs in the bolero style composed by popular musicians such as Huỳnh Anh, Thái Thịnh and Vũ Thanh.

“I moved to France in 1988, but my love for music is still here,” said My after her first show in HCM City, 27 years after moving away from the city. The show, Trở Về Mái Nhà Xưa (Returning Home) attracted 2,000 people.

For this concert, the 64-year-old will sing songs by Diệp Minh Tuyền and Hoàng Thi Thơ that shot her to fame in the 1970s and 80s in the city.

My began her career before graduating from the Sài Gòn National Music and Theatre College in 1974.

After 1975, she worked for the Kim Cương Troupe and travelled to perform in many places at home and abroad.

After moving to France, she worked with music producers and entertainment agencies and performed on many albums and videos.

Her hits include Em Đi Rồi (You’re Gone), Ảo Ảnh ( Illusion) and Đường Xưa ( Old Path), composed by Ngô Thụy Miên, Y Vân and Hoàng Thi Thơ.

My released three albums, produced by Phương Nam Film, featuring songs by late talented musician Phạm Duy in Việt Nam in 2009.

The concert, Giọng Ca Vàng Bolero, will take place at 8pm on July 20 at the nightclub We at 172H Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Street in District 3.—VNS
