HCM CITY — Vietnamese-American actor, director and martial artist Dustin Nguyen will play a role in Warrior, a new Cinemax crime-drama series based on the writings of martial art legend Bruce Lee.
The 10-episode series is executive produced by Shan Lee, Lee’s daughter, Fast and Furious 6 director Justin Lin, and writer Jonathan Tropper.
It is about a martial arts prodigy who emigrates to San Francisco from China during the Tong Wars of the city in the second half of the 19th century.
In the film, Dustin will play Zing who fights against the leading character played by British actor Andrew Koji.
Dustin made his acting debut in 1985 with a role in Magnum, PI., an American crime drama series that ran from 1980 to 1988.
He has played in American series like 21 Jump Street and VIP, and movies such as Little Fish, The Doom Generation and The Rebel.
In 2008, he played a leading role in Huyen Thoai Bat Tu (The Legend Is Alive), a production of Phuoc Sang Studio, Sai Gon Media and Wonder Boy Entertainment.
The role brought him the Golden Lotus Award given by the Viet Nam Cinema Association and the Golden Kite Award by the Viet Nam Cinema Department.
In 2013, Dustin wrote, directed, and played a leading role in action movie Lua Phat (Once upon a Time in Viet Nam).
He has directed films such as De Mai Tinh (Fool for Love) in 2010, Trung So (Jackpot) in 2015, Bao Gio Co Yeu Nhau (When We Fall in Love) in 2016, and 789 Muoi in 2018.
Warrior’s premiere on Cinemax is scheduled for April 5. — VNS
