HÀ NỘI The northern province of Bắc Giang honoured 10 exceptional local youths for their remarkable work and academic achievements at a ceremony on March 24.
The “Outstanding Youths of Bắc Giang Province” awards were given away on the sidelines of the “Aspirations of Dedication - Youth's Way of Life” forum to celebrate the 93rd anniversary of the establishment of the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union (March 26).
The individuals honoured are exemplary Youth Union members who have achieved excellent results in nation-building, protecting the homeland, studying, working and creativity.
They include Trương Phi Hùng, a 12th grader studying physics at Bắc Giang Specialised High School.
He has numerous outstanding achievements to his credit in provincial, national and international student contests, including the silver medal at the European Physics Olympiad and a bronze medal at the Physics Unlimited Competition last year.
Another awardee, Trần Thị Hoàn, 26, in Lục Ngạn District, has led numerous agricultural, environmental and scientific projects. Her initiatives have played a significant role in reducing the use of agricultural chemicals in rural areas, thus mitigating pollution.
In 2023 Hoàn won second prize in the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Contest organised by the province Youth Union and Department of Science and Technology.
Hoàng Ngọc Cầm, who works for the Lục Nam District police’s drug crime investigation team, has been active in the fight against drug-related crimes and apprehended individuals involved in transporting drugs.
The 30-year-old policeman helped seize the largest quantity of MDMA (methamphetamine) (9.5kg) ever in Bắc Giang.
He has won numerous honours and certificates of merit from the provincial police department and Lục Nam District People's Committee for his achievements in combating drug-related offenses.
The awards are a prestigious recognition that motivates the development of young talent and encourages academic pursuits, training, scientific research, labour, and creativity among them.
According to the secretary of the Youth Union, Thân Trung Kiên, the organisation has identified the focal points of action in 2022-27 to nurture the younger generations.
“These include improving the quality and effectiveness of the organisation's activities.
“They also emphasise volunteerism and creativity, especially in digital transformation and international integration.” VNS
