HCM CITY — A series of cultural activities will be held across the city this weekend to celebrate the 88th anniversary of Viet Nam Woman’s Day, October 20.
The Women’s Cultural House in District 3 is organising two exhibitions to honour the beauty and talent of Vietnamese women.
The exhibition Phu Nu Viet Nam Qua Tem Buu Chinh (Images of Vietnamese Women on Postal Stamps) showcases a collection of 100 stamps, depicting Vietnamese women in times of war and peace.
The stamps also feature portraits of women who won the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and women from 54 ethnic minorities.
The event will close on October 30.
On October 27 a painting exhibition Nhip Cau Xanh – 2018 (Green Bridge – 2018) by 21 artists of the Ngan Ha Women Artists’ Club will be held.
It will include 39 works in oil, acrylic and mixed-media, featuring images of daily life, still life and landscapes.
Painter Phuong Mai, head of the club, said: “We want to reflect our optimistic views about life.”
The exhibition will close on November 7.
In addition, music performances, a singing contest, and a women’s mental health consultant will be part of the activities at the cultural house during the weekend.
The HCM City General Publishing House will host the Good Book Week fair at its bookstores in Districts 1 and 4, and on HCM City Book Pedestrian Street in District 1 from October 20-27.
The event will introduce 41 newly published titles in different genres such as literature, culture, history and science.
Outstanding publications will include Ngan Nam Bia Mieng (Folktales of Southern Land) by Huynh Ngoc Trang and Truong Ngoc Tuong, and Chuyen Ve Ung Xu Van Hoa (Lessons on Behaviour) by Pham Phuong Thao.
The publishing house will also release new books about Sai Gon/HCM City to celebrate its 320th birthday.
A tear-off calendar called Sai Gon Xua Va Nay (Sai Gon Now and Then) will feature historic architectural sites and local lifestyles.
The organisers will offer discounts of up to 50 per cent for books during the week. — VNS
