A conscious patient sings Vietnamese anthem as doctors from the Viet Nam Germany Hospital, led by Dr. Dong Van He remove a tumour from his brain in Ha Noi yesterday. It was the first conscious brain surgery ever conducted in Viet Nam, though the technique is practiced worldwide. The 36-year-old patient had a 6-cm tumour, which caused brain compression that resulted in head pain and epilepsy. The surgery lasted from 10am to 4pm with the assistance of a Japanese anesthesiologist and technician. — VNA/VNS Photo Duong Ngoc
