HCM CITY — Two prominent artists, born in Australia to Vietnamese parents, will perform at the Heart Reach Australia charity concert at New World Hotel on Saturday. A child prodigy, Van Anh Nguyen, 23, of Sydney, began learning piano at the age of 15 months and was accepted into the Sydney Conservatory of Music's programme for gifted musicians before she turned four.
She received her Licentiate Diploma in music eight years later and became one of the youngest in her generation to do so.
Melbourne's Thanh Bui is four years older and was the first Vietnamese to make it to the Top Ten of the Australian Idol talent show two years ago.
His singing career with the Australian band North has been a successful one, especially in Asia.
Thanh, who has powerful vocals and onstage charisma, has garnered numerous accolades in songwriting.
His band has released two albums in which three tracks have become number-one hits in Thailand and Indonesia. Two other tracks climbed to the top spots on Malaysian charts.
Heart Reach Australia is a non-profit humanitarian aid organisation working in Viet Nam and Sri Lanka to help the disadvantaged improve their quality of life.
Tickets are VND1,500,000 (US$77) each at New World Hotel. The event includes canapes and drinks and a post-show party with international specialities and DJ music. — VNS
