Second volume on local writers due this year

HA NOI — Former journalist Tran Thanh Phuong plans to bring out a second book about famous Vietnamese writers this year.

Phuong has spent 30 years compiling the two volumes, the second of which is entitled Chan Dung va But Tich Nha Van Viet Nam (Vietnamese Writers' Portraits and Autographs).

"Like its first book, the second will profile 250 writers," the 70-year-old author said.

The book includes a brief biography of each author, a list of published works, extracts, critical comments, a portrait and autograph.

Phuong said it was not easy to get copies of the writers' autographs because "unlike celebrities, writers do not often appear in public".

So far, Phuong has collected 1,000 autographs of Vietnamese writers and poets.

Vietnamese Writers' Portraits and Autographs will be published by the Educational Publishing House in Ha Noi.
