HCM CITY — A design contest for the Nguyễn Huệ Flower Street in 2021, the year of the buffalo, has kicked off.
The contest, organised by Saigontourist, aims to seek breakthrough ideas and themes for the flower street, which has been HCM City’s most popular attraction during Tết (Lunar New Year) since 2004.
The flower street has a length of 550 metres, extending from Lê Lợi Street to Tôn Đức Thắng Street in District 1.
It is decorated with dozens of flower arrangements made from more than 100 kinds of flowers like chrysanthemums, roses, orchids, azalea, lotus and cacti.
The entrance to the street always contains a huge model of the mascot of the year.
Individuals and organisations can apply to gam.nguyen@saigontourist.com.vn or tu.truong@saigontourist.com.vn by April 12.
The organisers will provide designs of the flower street in 2020 as examples for contestants.
Finalists will have six weeks to send completed designs to the organisers.
Each contestant will receive VNĐ30 million (US$1,280), while each finalist will get VNĐ50 million ($2,134).
The organisers will grant a total cash prize of VNĐ200 million ($8,536) to three winners.
Installation work for the Nguyễn Huệ Flower Street is scheduled from January 25 to February 9.
The attraction will open to the public from February 9 to 15. — VNS
