Englishman to sing VN love songs

HCM CITY — Amateur singer Lee Kirby of England will croon Vietnamese love songs at the ATB Bar today and tomorrow.

The concert will feature Kirby's favourite songs by popular composers like Trinh Cong Son, Phu Quang and Tran Tien.

The event will also have special guest performances by singer Aùnh Tuyet and other singers at the ATB Bar, which has its own band perform live music.

Anh Tuyet, who owns the ATB Bar, and Kirby will together sing the Vietnamese folk song Beo Dat May Troi. Kirby and other ATB singers will perform the late composer Trinh Cong Son's Noi Vong Tay Lon.

Singer Aùnh Tuyet said as a foreigner singing Vietnamese songs, she felt special love for the country in his voice.

Kirby, born in England, now is Director of Operations at the Ashbourne College in London.

Kirby visited Viet Nam for the first time in 2002. Later, he performed a song composed by Trinh Cong Son, Dem Thay Ta La Thac Do (Last Night I Dreamed of Becoming the Falls) at the Ashbourne College show in 2004.

In 2008, he returned Viet Nam to gain a deeper understanding of the country and learn more about the late composer Son in particular and Vietnamese music in general.

The concert will take place at the ATB Bar, 197/7 Nguyen Van Troi, Phu Nhuan District. — VNS
