Fans commemorate Trinh Cong Son death

MOSCOW — Fans of Trinh Cong Son gathered in Moscow on Friday to sing his popular works to mark the 10th anniversary of his death.

The event was attended by staff from the Vietnamese embassy in Moscow, members of the Viet Nam Arts and Literary Association in Russia, singers of the Four Seasons band and a number of young people in Russia.

There were also art performances, poems and stories of the life and cause of Trinh Cong Son during the concert.

According to Charge d'Affairs Trinh Dinh Hung, Son visited Moscow for the first time more than 25 years ago.

In Viet Nam, Son's fans in many localities held a number of music nights in commemoration of his death.

People also burnt incenses at his grave and then gathered together to sing aloud his songs.

Son was considered the best composer in writing love songs of the century. He wrote his first song Uot Mi (Tearing Lashes) in 1958 and left nearly 600 works, most of them are love songs when he died.

Contest promotes biology, preservation

HA NOI — The Diversified Biology and Nature Preservation contest was held on Saturday in Ha Noi by Olympia Schools.

The contest is considered an opportunity for students to learn more about diversified biology and preservation, said organisers.

Secondary school students in Ha Noi gave quick answers to questions related to preservation of ecosystems, presented their ideas on environmental protection and watched movie clips about related issues.

After the contest, all participants received presents and certificates from the contest's organisation committee.

The event gives students a chance to meet with children from other schools and build up their knowledge on environmental preservation, said organisers.

The contest is sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund. — VNS
