HCM CITY — A series of documentaries on the French fashion industry will be screened at the Institute of Cultural Exchange with France (IDECAF) in HCM City this month.

The month-long film programme will feature documentary films about French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and Elle, a French magazine on women's fashion beauty, health and entertainment.

The films are directed by French director, scriptwriter and cinematographer David Teboul.

Yves Saint Laurent: His Life and Times, released in 2002, will open the IDECAF film programme, beginning today. The French-language documentary is about the rise of the French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, who closed his custom dressmaking business after 40 years of operation in 2001.

It features interviews with the designer, and with his companion and business partner Pierre Berge.

The second documentary about the designer, Yves Saint Laurent 5 Avenue Marceau 75116 Paris, peers behind the doors of one of the world's leading fashion houses.

Released in 2002, the film tracks a Saint Laurent women's summer collection for 2010 from its conception to the runway. It will be screened on July 17.

Born in 1963 in Algeria, Saint Laurent was one of the greatest figures in French fashion in the 20th century. He died of brain cancer in Paris at the age of 71.

In 2005, Teboul also released a documentary on the world's largest fashion magazine Histoire d'Elle (History of Elle).

The film reveals the history of the magazine which was founded in 1945 and now has 39 international editions in more than 60 countries. The film will be shown on July 10.
