Dance enriches cultural lives: Politburo member

HA NOI — Dance has enriched people's cultual lives, said Politburo member Truong Tan Sang.

Sang made these remarks at the fifth National Congress of the Viet Nam Dancers Association 2010-15 in Ha Noi.

Apart from hailing the achievements made by dancers, Sang urged participants to promote the improvement of dancing skills, with emphasis on traditional dances.

Sang told the congress to work closely with the community and local people in order to inspire them to create more dances that are dedicated to the country, its people and landscape.

He also urged cultural authorities to create preferential policies and favourable conditions that would promote literature and arts including dancers.

Chairwoman of the Viet Nam Dancers Association Chu Thuy Quynh affirmed that the association will promote its activities, which include composition, research, training, performing and popularising the dance arts.

"We will continue promoting campaigns that are dedicated to creating new compositions," Quynh said.

The chairwoman also stressed that it is important to document traditional dances and folk music that exist among the country's 54 ethnic groups.

During the next five years, the association will expand international co-operation with ASEAN countries and China.

The association is planning to organise an International Dance Art Festival in Viet Nam, said Quynh.

The congress elected an executive board including 15 artists, and Quynh was re-elected as chairwoman of the association. — VNS
