HCM CITY — First year University of Natural Sciences student Do Cao Tri won first prize – a Dell laptop – for his photo entitled Hon Tap (Mishmash) in a HCM City photo contest focused on sustainability and urbanisation.

The contest, HCM City 21 – A Green and Sustainable City, sponsored by Siemens Viet Nam, received more than 300 entries from university students city-wide.

"The winning photo has successfully and creatively reflected a cramped living space overloaded with a high density of residents during urbanisation," said Le Van Thanh, representative from the HCM City Institute for Development Studies and head of the jury panel.

Second and third place prizes were also awarded, along with two encouragement prizes.

"I was very surprised and moved by the talent of our students. This photo contest is very meaningful not only in terms of education but also in that it has created a healthy and useful playground for the young generation," he said.

"Through this contest, we wish to help raise awareness among students, who are the future owners of the country, about the challenges confronting urbanisation. We also want to call on their sense of responsibility and wise actions from today onwards to help build a green and sustainable future for all," said Siemens Viet Nam Chairman and CEO Erdal Elver.

The contest also provided a platform for university students to show their creativity and share their aspirations and their dreams about the development and future of their city through photos, said Elver.

During the final round of the contest, students were able to ponder the beautiful photos taken by their peers and listen to presentations from the top five contestants. They also had the unique opportunity to meet with managers of Siemens Viet Nam, visit the exhibition and learn about the innovative solutions and products that the company has been implementing to help transform HCM City into a green and sustainable city. — VNS
