ĐÀ NẴNG — The Nam Ô eco-tour project has been launched at Nguyễn Tất Thành beach park in Liên Chiểu District to help local fishermen expand their livelihoods.

The project, which covers on 35ha including 10ha of pristine beach, will be a favourite rendezvous on the world heritage journey Huế-Đà Nẵng-Hội An in central Việt Nam.

It features a check-in site and food stalls to support villagers in their move towards providing sustainable eco-tourism services.

Around 50 people living in Nam Ô will become tourism service providers on the 3km beach during high-season.

The project owner, Trung Thuỷ Group, has donated VNĐ1.1 billion over a two-year period.

Nam Ô Village had a long traditional of fish sauce production in Đà Nẵng, and about 100 households still practise the centuries-old craft.

Last month, the handmade fish sauce ‘Hương Làng Cổ’ (Ancient Village Savour) was the only representative product of the central city participating in the Foodex-Japan 2023 – the largest international food and beverage exhibition in Asia.

The fish sauce trade of Nam Ô Village was also recognised as a National Intangible Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and villagers annually produce 100,000 litres of fish sauce from 200 tonnes of anchovies.

The village has built safe and healthy fish sauce production standards such as non-chemical, zero-plastic, environment-friendly bamboo filters, terra-cotta jars, and glass bottles.

Situated at the foot of Hải Vân Pass, the village has been creating a trade experience destination for tourists visiting Đà Nẵng.

Many relics of temples, pagodas, coral reefs and moss check-points on the coast have been preserved by local villagers.
